The R. Rasmadhoo Island Council has stated that no work has been carried out on the expansion project of the island’s health center, despite the contract being awarded to Fenaka Corporation.
Speaking on Friday's "Fashaairu" program, the President of the Island Council, Mohamed Asif, expressed deep concern over the inadequate access to healthcare services on the island.
Asif stated that the contract for the expansion of the health center was awarded to Fenaka Corporation and signed ahead of the parliamentary elections. However, he noted that no work related to the project has been carried out to date.
Furthermore, Asif stated his commitment to expanding the health center's capacity, creating a more conducive environment for staff to perform their duties, and ensuring the establishment of high-quality medical services for patients.
However, as no progress has been made on the project, efforts were made to seek clarification from the government, including two separate visits to the Ministry of Health. He stated that the Ministry also acknowledged Fenaka’s failure to carry out the work and indicated that they are now considering awarding the project to another party.
We visited the Ministry on two subsequent occasions because the work had come to a complete standstill. During our discussions, Ministry officials confirmed that none of the projects contracted to Fenaka were progressing. Consequently, the Ministry is now considering reclaiming the project from Fenaka and exploring alternative ways to move forward. However, those formal proceedings have yet to take place.Mohamed Asif, President of the Rasmaadhoo Island Council
The contract for the expansion project of the Rasmaadhoo Health Centre was awarded to Fenaka Corporation on May 29, 2023.
