Maroshi residents left with "rusty water" – no one to address the crisis!
Residents of Sh. Maroshi are facing significant health risks and daily hardships due to rusty water being supplied through the island's water system, yet Fenaka Corporation has failed to provide a satisfactory response despite multiple complaints. Locals allege that political influence is stalling a resolution, while concerns grow over the conduct of the island's Fenaka office head, who is accused of neglecting the issue and targeting employees personally instead of addressing the technical failure.

Residents of Sh. Maroshi have expressed serious concern over the contamination of the island's water supply system, reporting that the water has become unusable due to heavy rust discoloration.
Although this project was initiated and completed by the previous administration, the government of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officially commenced service operations in 2025. However, a resident who spoke to RaajjeTV stated that since the service began, the water supplied through the taps has been rusty and unusable for any purpose, including drinking.
Residents have expressed deep concern as the issue continues to cause significant health risks and disrupt daily life. Despite filing formal complaints and sending multiple letters to the local Fenaka office over the past year, the community remains without a solution.
A resident of Maroshi stated that although the community officially submitted a letter along with water samples to Fenaka Corporation on the 9th of this month seeking a resolution to the issue, the company has yet to provide any response.
The public has also raised allegations of political influence surrounding the matter. Residents have pointed out that Salim Abdulla, the official in charge of the Fenaka office in Maroshi, is a member of the ruling PNC’s steering committee and is known to be a close associate of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Mohamed Ibrahim.
According to the residents of Maroshi, he has made no effort to resolve the issue and has been treating his subordinates with personal animosity. Allegations have also surfaced that he is systematically harassing and targeting employees based on their differing political views, with claims that he is intentionally victimizing certain individuals.
A local source stated that despite repeated appeals to various government institutions, no positive results have been achieved.
The water we are being provided is unfit for human consumption. For the political appointees at the Fenaka office, the health of the citizens is not the priority; they are solely concerned with their positions and political affiliations.A Maroshi resident expresses concern
