Fenaka Corporation’s Managing Director Mohamed Najah has stated that a permanent resolution to Addu City’s ongoing electricity problem is expected to be achieved in approximately a year and a half.
Speaking at the People’s Majlis State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) Committee, Najah said that efforts to address Addu’s electricity issue are being pursued with special priority.
He noted that the current government has so far brought eight generators to Addu as part of the effort to resolve the problem, increasing the city’s electricity capacity to 12 megawatts.
Najah added that an additional 1.8-megawatt generator is planned to be brought to Addu ahead of the upcoming fasting month of Ramadan, which would raise available capacity to around 13 megawatts.
During a recent visit to Addu City, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assured residents that his administration will establish a 30-megawatt electricity capacity in the city. However, no further details have been provided on how the project will be implemented.
Most recently, in an attempt to ease the electricity difficulties in Addu, two gensets from Thinadhoo City were transferred to Addu. This move has raised concerns among the people of Thinadhoo.
