Physical work on 15 mosques commissioned for construction under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration has remained stalled for over a year. According to information shared by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs with RaajjeMV, agreements were signed with Fenaka Corporation Limited on 15 March 2024, for the construction of 14 of these mosques.
The projects include the Quran Centers in L. Maabaidhoo and Lh. Olhuvelifushi, as well as mosque construction projects in Sh. Foakaidhoo, Sh. Noomaraa, Th. Veymandoo, B. Kudarikilu, N. Henbadhoo, Hdh. Nellaidhoo, Th. Hirilandhoo, R. Inguraidhoo, and S. Feydhoo.
While the mosque project in Sh. Foakaidhoo was awarded with a 900-day completion timeline, the mosque projects in Sh. Noomaraa and Th. Veymandoo were contracted to be finished within 550 days. The construction of the remaining mosques has been assigned a 365-day deadline for completion.
Additionally, the mosque construction projects in HA. Baarah, B. Maalhos, and AA. Feridhoo have been awarded to MTCC, with a completion deadline of 365 days. Furthermore, RDC has been contracted to construct a new mosque in AA. Maalhos and to complete the remaining work on the mosque in GA. Gemanafushi.

An official from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs stated that although more than a year has passed since these projects were awarded, physical progress has remained unsatisfactory. The official further noted that, based on the current status of the projects, no significant work has been carried out beyond site clearing and foundation laying.
