Middle East Tensions: Maldives seeks additional airlines to mitigate economic impact
The Maldivian government is collaborating with international aviation authorities to mitigate the impact of escalating Middle East tensions on the country’s air travel sector. In response to flight schedule disruptions, officials have initiated discussions to attract additional airlines from regions such as Southeast Asia and India. These proactive measures aim to minimize inconveniences for tourists and travelers while safeguarding the national economy from potential downturns.

The Ministry of Transport has announced plans to introduce additional airlines to the Maldives in an effort to mitigate the economic impact of the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
The Ministry of Transport announced on Sunday that it is closely monitoring the evolving situation in the Middle East. This includes tracking regional developments stemming from ongoing conflicts and the subsequent impact of airspace restrictions implemented across the area.
The Ministry stated that it is monitoring the potential impact on global civil aviation and tourism, noting that flights from the Middle East are particularly vital to the Maldivian economy. In response to these developments, the Ministry confirmed it is working closely with major airlines operating in the Maldives, as well as relevant national and international authorities. The primary objective is to minimize any potential disruptions for tourists visiting the Maldives, as well as for Maldivians and residents traveling abroad.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Transport stated that while some airlines operating from the Middle East to the Maldives have adjusted their schedules, flights from other airlines continue to operate as planned. The Ministry added that discussions are underway to bring additional airlines from Southeast Asia, East Asia, and India to the Maldives in an effort to mitigate the impact of the current situation.
