Iran-Israel Conflict: President Muizzu establishes special ministerial committee led by Foreign Minister to mitigate potential impacts on Maldivians
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has established a special ministerial committee, chaired by Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, to address potential challenges facing Maldivians due to the escalating tensions in the Middle East. Comprising ministers from relevant sectors, the committee aims to mitigate the impact of the regional instability, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged Maldivians residing in or traveling to the region to take necessary safety precautions. The Ministry further assured that it will continue to provide the public with regular updates as the situation evolves.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has established a special ministerial committee to address and mitigate the potential challenges and impacts on Maldivians arising from the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
In a post on X on Saturday night, President’s Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed announced that the President has established a special ministerial committee this afternoon. The committee is tasked with taking collaborative measures to address and mitigate the potential challenges and impacts on the Maldivian people resulting from the ongoing unrest in the Middle East.
Heena stated that President Muizzu’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, has been appointed to chair the committee. The committee also includes Defense Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, Finance Minister Moosa Zameer, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen, Home Minister Ali Ihusaan, Tourism Minister Thoriq Ibrahim, Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar, and Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
Heena stated that the respective ministries will continue to share all relevant information with the public.
The United States and Israel launched a series of strikes against Iran on Saturday. Iran has since retaliated with its own military action. Iran’s forceful counter-strikes targeted several U.S. military bases located within the region.
In response to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged all Maldivians residing in or traveling to countries across the region to take necessary safety precautions.
In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged Maldivians currently residing in conflict-affected countries to minimize outdoor movement as much as possible. The Ministry further advised citizens to strictly adhere to the safety and security instructions issued by the respective local governments.
