The non-resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the Republic of Maldives Dasho Karma Hamu Dorjee, presented her credentials to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Thursday. The ceremony took place on Thursday morning at the President's Office.
The Ambassador arrived at the ceremony in a formal procession, escorted by a military guard of honor from the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF). The arrival was marked by traditional ceremonial honors, including the royal umbrella and a performance by the military brass and drum band.
Upon receiving the credentials of the new Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bhutan, the President formally accepted the letter of credence and extended a warm welcome to the Ambassador.
Following the ceremony, the President and the Ambassador held discussions on several areas of mutual interest. These included the exchange of expertise within the tourism and hospitality sectors. Furthermore, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening and enhancing the bilateral relations between the two nations.
The Maldives and the Kingdom of Bhutan officially established diplomatic relations on July 13, 1984.
