The non-resident Ambassador of Cuba to the Maldives Patricia Lázara Pego Guerra, has presented her credentials to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The ceremony took place on Wednesday morning at the President's Office.
The Ambassador arrived at the ceremony with full state honors, escorted by a ceremonial military procession from the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) featuring traditional drums and trumpets under the royal umbrella.
The President has officially welcomed the newly appointed Non-Resident Ambassador of Cuba to the Maldives, following the formal presentation of her Letters of Credence.
Following the credentials ceremony, the President and the Cuban Ambassador discussed potential avenues for strengthening bilateral relations. Key areas of focus included the development of the healthcare sector, higher education, and training programs, as well as cooperation in sports, with a specific emphasis on the advancement of volleyball. The Ambassador also expressed gratitude for the Maldives' steadfast support at the United Nations. Concluding the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing and fostering the long-standing ties between the two nations.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Cuba were established on January 29, 1977.
