The High Commissioner of Canada to the Republic of Maldives, Isabelle Marie Catherine Martin, has presented her credentials to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The ceremony took place this morning at the President's Office.
The Canadian High Commissioner-designate arrived at the ceremony with full state honors. The envoy was escorted to the President’s Office in a traditional processional march, accompanied by the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) drum and trumpet corps and a ceremonial guard under the traditional royal umbrella.
The President has officially welcomed the newly appointed High Commissioner of Canada to the Maldives, after formally accepting her letters of credence.
Following the credentials ceremony, the President and the High Commissioner of Canada discussed potential areas for strengthening bilateral cooperation. Key topics of discussion included climate change adaptation, collaboration in the seaplane industry, the empowerment of women and youth, and the promotion of gender equality. In concluding the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing and advancing the bilateral and international relations between the two countries.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Canada were formally established on December 14, 1981.
