Three Weeks After Monday Press Pledge, President Yet to Hold Briefing

The government has failed to provide a reason for canceling today’s scheduled press briefing, marking three consecutive weeks since the suspension of its pledged weekly updates on state activities. This prolonged hiatus has drawn significant concern from journalists and the public alike, particularly as it coincides with a period of heightened scrutiny and criticism regarding government policies.

Despite President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s earlier pledge to meet with the press every Monday, three weeks have passed without a single press briefing being held.

Weekly press conferences, initiated by the government to provide updates on its activities and address inquiries from the media, have now been suspended for three consecutive weeks. The government has yet to disclose a specific reason for the suspension of these scheduled briefings, which were originally intended to take place every Monday.

RaajjeTV's attempts to reach the government's Chief Spokesperson, Mohamed Hussain Shareef, to clarify the reason behind the cancellation of today's press conference were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to the calls.

The suspension of press briefings comes at a time when the government is facing intense public scrutiny over its inconsistent policies. Following the cancellation of today’s scheduled press conference, both journalists and the general public have voiced sharp criticism against the administration.
