Concerns mount over delays in Naivaadhoo School multipurpose hall project; completion unlikely by deadline
The Naivaadhoo Island Council has expressed concern over significant delays in the construction of the school's multipurpose hall, stating there is no assurance the project will be completed within the original timeframe. With the project contracted to MTCC, the council noted that the company’s heavy workload across multiple projects has slowed progress, sparking frustration among parents and residents who are eager for the essential facility to be finished for the students.

The Naivaadhoo Island Council has expressed concerns that the construction of the multi-purpose hall at HDh. Naivaadhoo School may not be completed within the officially contracted timeframe.
In an interview with RaajjeTV regarding the project, Naivaadhoo Council President Ahmed Aafaaq stated that the construction of the school's multipurpose hall was initiated in 2022 under the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. He noted that a significant portion of the project had been completed by the end of the previous administration's term.
However, Aafaaq stated that this work has come to a complete standstill following the change of government.
Aafaaq stated that following President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s assumption of office, the project has been re-awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The company has been tasked with completing the work within a 365-day timeframe.
However, he noted that while work has commenced, progress remains significantly slow.
Highlighting the reasons for the delays, the Council President stated that the primary cause appears to be the large number of ongoing projects in Naivaadhoo currently contracted to MTCC. He noted that because a single company has been tasked with multiple projects simultaneously, the construction of the school hall has failed to receive the necessary attention and priority.
Furthermore, he noted that among the projects contracted to MTCC on the island, there are some where no work has commenced at all.
Furthermore, Aafaaq stated that, given the current pace of work, there is no longer any assurance that the hall's construction will be completed within the timeframe stipulated in the government's contract with MTCC.
The council highlighted that the school's multipurpose hall is essential for students' educational and extracurricular activities. They noted that residents and parents have expressed significant concern over the ongoing delays in completing the project.
