Jobs Tailored for Individuals, SOEs Turned Political Hubs: Ahmed Didi

Maradhoo MP Ahmed Didi has expressed concern over the deteriorating state of employment practices in the Maldives, alleging that political affiliation is being prioritized over merit and capability when appointing individuals to technical roles. He further criticized the current administration, claiming that employees of state-owned enterprises are being pressured to participate in political activities to promote the President rather than fulfilling their professional responsibilities.

Ahmed Didi, the Member of Parliament for the Maradhoo constituency, has stated that the principles of good governance and best practices are no longer being followed in the Maldives, asserting that state-owned enterprises have been transformed into political hubs.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, the member heavily criticized the current administration's conduct and policies.

MP Didi stated that the current state of employment practices in the Maldives has deteriorated significantly. He characterized the recruitment process as a system where job advertisements are tailored specifically for government-favored individuals, likening it to "tailoring a suit to fit a specific person."

The MP stated that even when appointing individuals to technical roles, political affiliation is prioritized over professional competence. He further noted that, currently, every job opportunity is being treated as a reward based on one's political leanings.

Speaking on the current state of state-owned enterprises, Didi stated that all such companies have now been transformed into hubs for political activities.

He noted that while companies like Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) previously refrained from political involvement, their marketing managers are now forced to focus on polishing the government's image instead of seeking ways to attract more flights to the Maldives. The member further highlighted that these professionals have now been reduced to promoting and managing public relations for President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

All state-owned enterprises have now been transformed into political hubs. Historically, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) was never a company known for political involvement. However, instead of focusing on strategies to attract more flights to the Maldives, even MACL’s marketing managers are now forced to act as public relations agents to polish the government's image. They are now required to engage in PR activities specifically to promote President Muizzu.

Furthermore, the member countered the excuses provided by the government regarding the country's economic situation and the challenges it faces. He characterized the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel as a "scapegoat" or a pretext used by the administration to absolve itself of responsibility.

MP Ahmed Didi further emphasized the need to strengthen national administration and implement fair, transparent policies regarding employment and the management of state-owned enterprises. However, he expressed grave concern that the entire state apparatus has fallen under political influence, leading to a complete erosion of the principles of good governance.
