Government's only midterm progress is Hanimaadhoo mosque slab: Council
The Hanimaadhoo Island Council has expressed deep concern over the stalled construction of a new 500-capacity mosque, a project that has seen no progress under the current administration. Despite the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) subcontracting the project, the lack of physical work on-site has caused significant hardship for residents in the growing neighborhood. The council highlighted that the prolonged delay raises serious questions regarding the government's commitment to prioritizing religious infrastructure.

The Hanimaadhoo Island Council has expressed concern over the stalled construction of a 500-capacity mosque initiated by the previous MDP administration, noting that the only progress made since the current government took office has been the casting of a single concrete slab.
Speaking to "RaajjeTV" regarding the matter, Hanimaadhoo Council Member Rifga Muna stated that the mosque project was initiated by the previous MDP administration. She noted that while the installation of pillars was underway and work was progressing rapidly at the time of the government transition, the only progress made under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration so far has been the casting of the mosque's concrete slab.

Rifga stated that although MTCC has subcontracted the project to a local company, there has been no visible progress on the ground.

The council highlighted that the construction of a mosque in this area is of utmost importance, as it is a rapidly developing residential zone where numerous land plots have already been allocated. However, Rifga noted that with the government’s term surpassing two years and approaching the three-year mark, the continued delay in completing the project raises serious questions regarding the priority the administration accords to religious affairs.
As this administration approaches its third year, only the structural concrete slabs have been cast. No further work has been carried out since then, and there is no visible progress on the project. This clearly demonstrates the level of priority Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assigns to religious affairs.Rifga Muna, Member of the HDh. Hanimaadhoo Island Council
The council stated that it has repeatedly requested updates from the relevant authorities regarding the progress of this project and shared its concerns, yet no satisfactory solution has been reached to date. While President Muizzu’s administration maintains that religious affairs are a top priority, the residents of Hanimaadhoo have expressed significant grievances over the continued suspension of such vital projects initiated in the islands.
