President Muizzu’s administration is weaker than a mosquito: MP Sameer
Thoddoo MP Hussain Sameer has expressed concern over the government's lack of accountability, noting that ministers summoned to Parliament frequently fail to provide adequate answers while essential island development projects remain stalled. Alleging that state-owned enterprises are being exploited for illicit gain, the lawmaker further accused the government of leveraging its parliamentary majority to obstruct legislative oversight and evade transparency.

The Member of Parliament for the Thoddoo constituency, Hussain Sameer, has characterized President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration as being "weaker than a mosquito."
During a press conference held by the MDP parliamentary group on Wednesday, MP Sameer expressed concern over the conduct of government ministers, noting that they fail to provide substantive answers even when summoned to Parliament. He further stated that the current administration is highly unpopular, adding that the behavior of its ministers is causing public approval to decline even further.
MP Sameer stated that excavation pits dug for hospital development projects in various islands have become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. He further alleged that the Ministry of Health is attempting to cover up this issue. He characterized the current administration as being "weaker than a mosquito," adding that this fragility is clearly evident within the Parliament.
I raised this issue during the Health Minister’s appearance before this Parliament. In a constitutional island within my constituency, authorities dug pits for a hospital project during the election period. These pits have since become breeding grounds for mosquito larvae, leading to a dengue outbreak in the community. Within a week of my complaint, instead of proceeding with the construction for which materials had already been gathered on-site, they simply buried the pits. Now, they intend to re-contract the excavation work, solely to facilitate further corruption and provide illicit enrichment to certain parties. Following these events, I stated in Parliament today that this government is, in reality, more fragile and diseased than a mosquito.Hussain Sameer, Member of Parliament for the Thoddoo constituency.
Referring to State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and government ministries, MP Sameer stated that instead of prioritizing development projects, these entities are focused on promoting the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) and the administration. He further alleged that SOEs are being heavily exploited for undue advantage, noting that such practices were clearly evident during the most recent local council elections.
However, MP Sameer stated that because the PNC holds the majority in the People's Majlis, it has become impossible to summon and hold the heads of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) accountable.
