Fathimath Fazla, who served as the General Manager of the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), has been abruptly dismissed from her position without any prior notice.
Fazla was one of the most prominent and dedicated figures who worked to ensure President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s election during his bid for the Male' City Mayoralty.
WAMCO issued a formal notice to Fazla last Saturday, informing her of her dismissal from the post. According to the document provided by the company, her employment was terminated under its redundancy policy. However, reports indicate that the decision was made without any prior notice or warning.
Fazla was appointed to the position of General Manager at WAMCO on April 29, 2024.
Speaking to RaajjeMV on the condition of anonymity, a close associate of Fazla revealed that she played a pivotal role in President Muizzu’s mayoral campaign. During that period, she established a call center in her own home and worked tirelessly to ensure his election victory. The source further noted that following Muizzu’s election as Mayor, Fazla continued to work alongside him with unwavering dedication, contributing sincerely to various projects and initiatives undertaken by the Male' City Council.

Subsequently, he also worked to secure Muizzu's election to the presidency during the presidential campaign.
RaajjeMV attempted to contact Fazla via phone calls and messages for a comment regarding this matter; however, she has not responded.
Fazla was a prominent figure in the activities of the PPM-PNC coalition. She played a leading role in the protests and movements organized against the previous MDP administration. In May, she resigned from the PNC Senate and officially left the party.

Public criticism is mounting over the dismissal of general employees under the guise of restructuring state-owned enterprises. Many of the terminated staff are being informed that these decisions are part of cost-cutting measures. However, the government simultaneously continues to appoint individuals to new positions with high-level salaries.
