President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has designated key development projects to be executed under a strategic economic policy aimed at public benefit. The formalization of these projects was announced through Presidential Decree No. 11/2024, which was published in the Government Gazette on Monday.
The President's Office stated that this decree was issued pursuant to Section 5(m)(3) of the Maldives Tourism Act (Law No. 2/99). This legal provision mandates the annual publication in the Government Gazette of key government-designated projects—driven by economic, social, or other significant public interest policies—along with the minimum investment requirements for the parties to whom these projects are awarded.
The schedule attached to this resolution outlines the projects designated by the government for implementation under the aforementioned policies, along with the minimum investment requirements mandated for the parties to whom these projects are awarded.
The resolution published in the Government Gazette by the President's Office outlines a total of 19 projects. These include five projects related to tourism and transport; five projects concerning internal security, defense, and technology; four projects focused on housing and infrastructure development; one project dedicated to youth and sports; and four projects involving climate change, the environment, and energy. While the specific details regarding the selection criteria for these projects have not been disclosed, the government has also withheld further clarification on the published figures cited as the minimum investment requirements for the projects.
