Shareef stated that this vote creates an opportunity to interfere with an ongoing constitutional term and is being organized in a manner intended to mislead the public, highlighting the urgent need to raise public awareness on these issues.

Former Elections Commission President Ahmed Shareef has stated that voting "no" in the referendum to hold presidential and parliamentary elections on the same day would be equivalent to rejecting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Shareef made these remarks while speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Noonekey" campaign program on Saturday night.
Shareef stated that there is no visible evidence of any work completed by the current administration for the benefit of the people, nor any initiatives undertaken for the public interest. He further urged all citizens to vote "no" in the upcoming referendum, which is scheduled to be held alongside the local council elections.
The public must collectively reject the upcoming referendum being held alongside the local council elections. We must say "no" because our experience thus far shows that President Muizzu’s administration has failed to deliver any meaningful results for the people. There has been no progress, nor any benefit or advantage provided to the citizens under this government.Ahmed Shareef, the former President of the Elections Commission.
Shareef further stated that the public must cast their votes in a manner that ensures President Muizzu’s administration does not continue. He added that voting against them would be a direct rejection of President Muizzu’s government.
Shareef further stated that this vote creates an opportunity to interfere with an ongoing term, adding that the process is being organized in a manner that could mislead the public. He also emphasized that it is the responsibility of the Elections Commission to raise public awareness regarding these issues.
