Regulations being drafted to ensure food security: Muizzu
In observance of World Food Safety Day, President Muizzu emphasized the necessity of a robust system to prevent foodborne illnesses, stating that the government will prioritize strengthening import controls and enhancing national technical capacity for food safety monitoring. Furthermore, the President called upon the international community to address the critical lack of food security in conflict zones such as Gaza, urging immediate global intervention to resolve these humanitarian crises.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government is currently drafting the necessary regulations under the Food Safety Act to ensure food security and maintain public confidence.
In a post on X on Sunday to mark World Food Safety Day, President Muizzu emphasized the vital importance of food safety in eradicating foodborne diseases, protecting public health, and ensuring sustainable development.
He noted that most foodborne illnesses can be prevented through a robust system, informed by research data and supported by the collective efforts of the entire community.
President Muizzu stated that the government remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that all food items consumed in the Maldives are safe, nutritious, and reliable.
President Muizzu stated that key government initiatives include drafting the necessary regulations under the Food Safety Act, strengthening controls on imported food items, and enhancing national technical capacity to monitor and ensure food safety.
Furthermore, highlighting the catastrophic situations in Gaza and other regions across the globe—where populations are deprived of food security and forced to rely on contaminated water—President Muizzu underscored the urgent need for the international community to work together to address these crises.
President Muizzu stated that a secure future for everyone globally can be ensured through collaborative efforts built on strong, cohesive relationships and the implementation of robust standards.
