President Muizzu appears to be intimidated by Home Minister Ihusaan: Lawyer Musthafa
Legal expert Musthafa Hameed has harshly criticized the government for failing to conduct impartial investigations into serious allegations against several cabinet ministers and police officers. Specifically, Musthafa accused President Muizzu of failing to take action against Home Minister Ihsan’s alleged unlawful conduct, suggesting the President may be intimidated by the Minister. Furthermore, he expressed a lack of hope for justice under the current administration, citing a persistent failure to address corruption allegations across various government ministries.

Legal counsel Mustafa Hameed has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu appears to be intimidated by Home Minister Ali Ihusaan, noting that this dynamic is becoming increasingly evident.
Appearing on the "Fala Surukhee" program Wednesday night, Musthafa Hameed leveled heavy criticism against President Muizzu’s administration. He specifically targeted the Maldives Police Service, the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, and Minister Ali Ihusaan, alleging a failure to conduct independent and fair investigations.
Musthafa stated that investigations conducted by the police into several incidents and major issues encountered during this administration have brought significant problems to light, leading to serious allegations against certain ministers and police officers.
In this regard, he highlighted the case involving the death of a female student residing at the Maldives National University (MNU) dormitory in Male', who fell from the ninth floor of H. Fentenoy onto the roof of H. Meetaaz. He specifically noted the issue of Home Minister Ihusaan disclosing the young woman's private chat logs during the investigation.
Referring to the Yumnu case, Musthafa stated that although a special commission was established to investigate the matter, no action has been taken against the two cabinet members identified in the commission's report: Home Minister Ihusaan and Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen.
Furthermore, Musthafa stated that President Muizzu is currently in a cornered position and is intimidated by Home Minister Ihsan. He added that this situation is clearly evident through the ongoing investigations and these issues.
Just recently, when journalists questioned the Home Minister regarding the actions taken by the police in that case, he responded by saying he was unaware and would need to look into it. This is not what accountability looks like. The President established a commission and pledged to take action based on its recommendations, yet we see no such action being taken. Measures should also be taken against Ihsan. He entered the scene unlawfully; he entered a crime scene when there was no necessity for him to be there. Furthermore, we recently witnessed the leaking of personal details concerning a deceased child to the media. Following this disclosure, the President stated the next day that such information would not be shared again. We do not understand why the President appears to be so intimidated by the Home Ministry. In reality, is he not being cornered? When the Home Minister publicly disclosed details from an investigation in violation of the law, the President should not have to defend him by simply apologizing and promising it would not happen again.Legal Counsel Musthafa Hameed
Musthafa stated that the current administration has failed to hold any government office, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, accountable. He noted that despite serious allegations of corruption, no investigations are being conducted. He further highlighted that the Ministry of Islamic Affairs recently faced significant allegations regarding Hajj quotas, yet the government has failed to provide any clarification or response on the matter.
Therefore, he stated that one should not expect a fair investigation or legal process to take place under the current administration.
