Solih: Several PNC members are ready to hold government accountable if guaranteed their seats
Former President Solih has strongly criticized the current administration, asserting that the Anti-Defection Act has stripped lawmakers of their independence. He revealed that several PNC members are prepared to join the opposition to hold the government accountable if their parliamentary seats can be guaranteed, further pledging that President Muizzu will be held answerable before the end of this year.

Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that several members of the People's National Congress (PNC) are prepared to leave the ruling party and hold the government accountable, provided they are guaranteed support to reclaim their seats should they lose their parliamentary positions.
Speaking at the "Sobe Rally" held in Addu City on Thursday night, President Solih strongly criticized the recent legislative amendments that trigger the loss of parliamentary seats for members who switch political parties.
President Solih stated that even when the government submits a bill to Parliament, it should not be passed as is, but must undergo thorough scrutiny. Noting that party candidates run on a specific manifesto, he emphasized that while members pledge to serve their constituencies, they must have the right to leave the party if the government fails to deliver on those promises. Furthermore, he described the current administration's move to "lock in" members for five years as a detrimental change, asserting that such practices cannot be sustained.
Furthermore, President Solih stated that a member of the People's National Congress (PNC) had contacted him two days ago. He added that there are currently several PNC members of parliament who wish to leave the party and join the opposition in their efforts to hold the government accountable.
However, President Solih stated that while these members risk losing their parliamentary seats, they seek an assurance that their seats will be restored to them.
Two days ago, I received a call from a member of parliament representing the PNC. He informed me that several other members are with him. I am speaking the absolute truth. He assured me that they are ready to leave the PNC right now and work towards holding this government accountable. He asked for a guarantee from us—specifically referring to myself, President Nasheed, and President Yameen. He noted that the three of us have already begun working together. He stated that if we three could agree today to help them reclaim their seats should they lose them upon leaving the party, they are fully prepared to step out and hold this government to account.Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih
Noting that the scales are now tipping, President Solih stated that, as former President Mohamed Nasheed has suggested, President Muizzu will be held accountable before the end of this year, or he will be forced to step down from office.
