President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has dismissed rumors suggesting that a no-confidence motion is being sought against Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef.
During a press conference held at the President's Office on Monday, a journalist raised questions regarding remarks made by the former Male' Area Commander, Captain (Retd.) Ahmed Fayaz Ali Riza (Papa), at a PNF rally on May 28, 2026. The journalist highlighted allegations that there are plans to remove the Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Dhiggaru MP, Ahmed Nazim, from his post, followed by a no-confidence motion in Parliament against Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef. The journalist then inquired about President Muizzu's response to these allegations.
In response to this question, President Muizzu stated that there is no truth to those allegations.
Noting that he had seen the video containing these allegations on social media, President Muizzu remarked that such individuals resemble the paid storytellers from the time of the Prophet. He further questioned whether the Maldives had regressed to such an era.

Former high-ranking officials and those close to them are engaged in these activities day and night. Is this truly how things are meant to function in our country? I feel a deep sense of pity for the state of our political landscape. It is a certainty that we have no real opposition in this country. If an opposition is not responsible, it cannot be considered an opposition. There is no truth in what is being said, so there is nothing more to address. I find myself marveling at how someone can speak for 10 or 12 minutes without a single word of truth, all while maintaining a perfectly straight face; it requires a certain kind of talent.
