Muizzu and PNC's top leadership are acting above law, public must take to the streets to bring an end to this tyranny: legal counsel Asif
Attorney Asif has alleged that despite serious accusations of corruption and embezzlement against President Muizzu and senior PNC leadership, investigative authorities have failed to probe these matters. Highlighting that government influence is hindering the independence of state institutions, Asif called upon the public and political parties to take to the streets to end this perceived tyranny and hold the administration accountable.

Legal counsel Adam Asif has asserted that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and senior officials of his political party, the People's National Congress (PNC), are effectively operating above the law.
Speaking on Wednesday's "Fashaairu" program, Asif characterized President Muizzu as a cruel leader who is increasingly prioritizing authoritarianism.
Asif stated that the law currently does not apply to President Muizzu or the senior leadership of the PNC. He noted that despite serious allegations of embezzlement against them, no investigations are being conducted. He further highlighted that although numerous cases involving President Muizzu have been submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Police, all these matters remain stalled.
The fundamental issue currently facing this country is that the law simply does not apply to the President or the senior leadership of the PNC, regardless of the severity of their alleged offenses. Maaz Saleem is likely the individual who has filed the most complaints against the President. Even before his most recent filings, I am aware of at least 20 cases that remain stalled at the Anti-Corruption Commission. Take, for instance, the report from the Maldives Monetary Authority’s Financial Intelligence Unit. Instead of action being taken, those who released the report were forced out, while the subjects were never even summoned for questioning. Then there is the MMTV case and numerous others, including the matter involving the destruction of three ministries by fire.Attorney-at-Law Adam Asif
Referring to the police institution, Asif stated that under the current administration, no investigation can be conducted independently or without undue influence. He further noted that there are numerous cases involving unexplained deaths that remain unresolved.
Furthermore, Asif stated that Home Minister Ali Ihusaan had spearheaded the theft of Maldivian citizens' national identity card data. He noted that, despite the severity of the matter, the Elections Commission (EC) had taken no further action against the party beyond imposing a fine.
Asif stated that citizens must find the courage to take to the streets to put an end to this current oppression, asserting that there is no other way to hold the government accountable. He further emphasized that political parties must also unite and join the public in these street protests.
