Nazim suspended as PNC’s Dhiggaru Constituency President
Ahmed Nazim has resigned as Deputy Speaker of the Parliament following a no-confidence motion submitted by the PNC, which accused him of undermining stability by aligning with opposing political ideologies. Despite Nazim denying allegations of involvement in a plot to topple the government, he has been suspended from his party positions, leading political observers to suggest that these developments are part of a broader effort to strip him of his parliamentary seat.

Ahmed Nazim, the Member of Parliament for the Dhiggaru constituency who was recently removed from his position as Deputy Speaker of the People’s Majlis, has been suspended from his role as the Dhiggaru constituency president of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC).
A senior member of the PNC has confirmed to RaajjeMV that Nazim, who represents the Diggaru constituency in the party's senate, was suspended from his position following his removal as the Deputy Speaker of the People's Majlis.
The People's National Congress (PNC) parliamentary group passed a no-confidence motion against Nazim during a meeting held on the 13th of last month, officially submitting the case to Parliament the following day. The motion, backed by the signatures of 73 PNC members, was submitted in accordance with parliamentary regulations, and Nazim has been served the mandatory 14-day notice.
However, Nazim resigned from his position as Deputy Speaker of Parliament before the no-confidence vote could be taken. He tendered his resignation thirty minutes prior to the scheduled 9:00 AM session on the 31st of last month.
In a statement released shortly before the scheduled session, Nazim announced his resignation, asserting that the resolution seeking his removal failed to provide any evidence or testimony to substantiate the allegations against him. He further noted that no member had previously raised any complaints regarding his conduct as Deputy Speaker or as a Member of Parliament, nor had he been accused of violating the Constitution or the Parliament's Standing Orders through any action or omission.
The resolution submitted to Parliament by the PNC alleges that Nazim has aligned himself with a specific political ideology and is actively working to disrupt the harmony within the legislative body. A senior member of the PNC previously stated that the motion to remove Nazim was filed after he refused to comply with a formal request to resign voluntarily.
Some members of the People's National Congress (PNC) have accused Nazim of working to topple the administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. However, the exact reasons behind Nazim losing the President's confidence have not yet been disclosed.
Political analysts in the Maldives suggest that the People’s National Congress (PNC) is currently working towards unseating Nazim from his parliamentary position. It is believed that his suspension from the post of PNC constituency president for Dhiggaru will further accelerate these efforts.
