Former Member of Parliament and legal expert Ali Hussain has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu lacks the necessary experience and vision to lead the nation. He further asserted that, given the corruption allegations dating back to his tenure as Mayor, the President should rightfully be serving a sentence rather than holding office.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, Ali Hussain stated that President Muizzu lacks a personal vision of his own, noting that he has always operated under the vision of former President Abdulla Yameen.
Furthermore, Ali Hussain highlighted that parliamentary experience is a vital component of political awareness and maturity, noting that President Muizzu lacks this experience as well.
Furthermore, he alleged that President Muizzu’s tenure as the Mayor of Male’ City was defined entirely by instances of corruption. Ali Hussain stated that the President should have faced prosecution for those matters and been handed the legal penalties they warranted.
President Muizzu is not a visionary leader; rather, he is someone who operated under the vision of President Yameen. Parliamentary experience is crucial for political awakening and maturity, yet President Muizzu lacks that background entirely. Even during his tenure as Mayor, his track record was marred by corruption allegations. In reality, President Muizzu is an individual who should have faced prosecution and sentencing for those very issues.Attorney-at-Law Ali Hussain
Commenting on the recent cabinet reshuffle, Ali Hussain stated that while the discourse on downsizing the government initially sparked hope for positive change, the practical reality has proven otherwise. He emphasized that there should be compelling reasons for the removal of individuals from high-profile positions, such as the Minister of Defence. He further characterized the move as a "backpass" made at a critical moment when the government should have been scoring a goal.
Commenting on the current state of the government, Ali Hussain stated that the administration is like a sinking ship. He warned that once it reaches a certain point, it will become trapped beneath the sails, making it nearly impossible to escape. He further noted that this is precisely the situation the country is witnessing today.
Criticizing the current proceedings within the People’s Majlis, Ali Hussain stated that special benefits and advantages provided by the government are being restricted to a specific group of PNC members. He further noted that it is evident even from social media that a select few are leading all parliamentary affairs and exerting exclusive influence over the institution.
Ali Hussain stated that following the recent change to the position of Deputy Speaker, it is highly probable that a no-confidence vote against the Speaker of Parliament could also be pursued in the near future.
