Current situation is such that the President holds remote control to Majlis; most critical task ahead is to rescue legislature: Solih
Asserting that the Maldives has spiraled out of control, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has called for urgent national reforms, emphasizing that the most critical step is ensuring the People’s Majlis remains an institution driven by the will of the people, which he maintains can only be achieved by securing a parliamentary majority for the MDP.

Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the current situation sees President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu holding the "remote control" over a People's Majlis dominated by a PNC super-majority. He emphasized that the most urgent priority now is to rescue the Parliament and restore it as an institution that truly belongs to the people.
Speaking at the "Sobe Rally" held in Addu City on Thursday night, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated that there is no sector in the Maldives that has not veered off course. President Solih further noted that the country is currently faced with a multitude of issues that are in urgent need of reform.
President Solih stated that the most crucial task amidst these challenges is to safeguard the Parliament and ensure it serves the people, emphasizing that this can only be achieved by maintaining a majority of MDP members in the house.
"The current situation is such that the remote control is in the President's hands. Everything is being carried out solely according to the President's vision. The needs and desires of the nation are not being met. This is why we must bring about change," President Solih said.
President Solih stated that the current Parliament is failing to represent the people. He noted that members are being "shackled," depriving them of the opportunity to freely voice the concerns of their constituents. President Solih further argued that it is unacceptable to restrict members from distancing themselves from a party when that party fails to fulfill the promises made during an election. He described such constraints as fundamentally inconsistent and illogical.
