Thinadhoo housing projects stall as 200-unit and new 50-unit developments halt
Former Member of Parliament Saneef has expressed deep concern over the suspension of a 200-unit row house project in Thinadhoo City, which has stalled at 70% completion due to the current administration's failure to release necessary funds. He further highlighted that while a separate contract for an additional 50 housing units was awarded under questionable circumstances, no practical progress has been made beyond the initial foundation laying. Saneef emphasized that the stagnation of these vital infrastructure projects is significantly hindering the overall development of Thinadhoo.

It has been revealed that the development of 200 row houses in Thinadhoo City, a project initiated during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, has come to a standstill under the current government.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Vaudhunaama" program, former Member of Parliament for South Thinadhoo, Abdulla Saneef, expressed deep concern and leveled sharp criticism at President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration, claiming that development projects in Thinadhoo City have come to a complete standstill.
Referring to the project to develop 200 row houses in the city, Saneef stated that 70 percent of the work had been completed by the time the government changed. However, he expressed deep concern that the project has come to a complete standstill under the current administration.
During the previous administration, a contract was awarded for the construction of 200 row houses in Thinadhoo. This was a government-funded project, and payments were disbursed in line with the progress made. By the time the current administration took office, approximately 70 percent of the work had been completed, with the structures erected and roofing finished. However, the project has now come to a standstill because the necessary funds are no longer being released to the contractors. At the same time, I must note that several projects across the country were awarded in violation of procurement regulations to relatives, friends, and Members of Parliament. While the motives behind these actions remain unclear to me, a 50-unit housing project in Thinadhoo was similarly awarded to a Member of Parliament. I do not know the hidden agenda behind this, though I have heard reports that a foundation stone has already been laid for it.Abdulla Saneef, the former Member of Parliament for South Thinadhoo constituency.
The project to develop 200 row houses in Thinadhoo commenced in 2022. Although applications for these units were opened in 2025, the project has yet to reach full completion. At the time, the Housing Ministry stated that 1,022 applications had been submitted and that the evaluation process for these applicants was currently underway.
Furthermore, it was announced that work on an additional 50 housing units in Thinadhoo City commenced on March 23, 2024.
Although the project was awarded with a completion deadline of 450 days, no progress has been made to date beyond the laying of the foundation stone.
