Maduvvari has received only six truckloads of sand under current administration: Shiham
The elected President of the R. Maduvvari Island Council has expressed deep concern over the Muizzu administration's perceived neglect of the island's development. He highlighted that key presidential pledges, such as harbor repairs and land reclamation, remain unfulfilled, while projects initiated by the previous administration have come to a standstill. Furthermore, he noted that despite significant advancements in education and healthcare during the last term, the pace of development on the island has slowed considerably under the current government.

The President of the Maduvvari Island Council, Hussain Shiham, has stated that the only development assistance the island has received under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration thus far is six truckloads of sand.
Speaking on Thursday's "Fashaairu" program on RaajjeTV, Shiham stated that numerous development projects on the island have come to a standstill under President Muizzu's administration, while the progress of ongoing projects remains significantly slow.
Shiham stated that President Muizzu had pledged to renovate the old harbor, upgrade the roads to modern standards, undertake land reclamation, and develop a volleyball court. However, he noted that no progress has been made on any of these projects to date. He further highlighted that the construction of the new council building is proceeding at a very slow pace.
Highlighting the current administration's significant neglect of the island, Shiham noted that only six truckloads of sand have been provided to date. He further stated that this sand was merely dumped into a puddle formed during the completion of the harbor project under former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration.
When the President arrived for his first campaign visit, the very first promise he made was right as he stepped onto this island’s old harbor. His team welcomed him at the old harbor rather than the new one. Perhaps they felt that acknowledging the new harbor—which was initiated and completed by the previous administration—was not something they wished to do. After disembarking at the old harbor, he announced that his government would very soon begin its renovation. However, two and a half years have since passed, and despite exhausting two full state budgets, the only thing Maduvvari has received is six truckloads of sand.Hussain Shiham, the President-elect of the Maduvvari Council.
Referring to the development achieved by the island during the previous administration, Shiham noted that the highest number of projects within Raa Atoll were carried out there.
Looking at all the islands in the Maldives, Maduvvari was a priority for the previous administration. When we met with the President alongside school officials to discuss our educational infrastructure, he initially pledged a hall building. However, school leadership emphasized that shifting to a single-session school would require an additional four classrooms. By the end of our consultations, the President facilitated the development of an eight-classroom block and a multipurpose hall, which were inaugurated during the last term. Furthermore, an ice plant was established, ATM services were introduced, and the island’s harbor issues were addressed. A contract was signed with RDC for road construction, and plans for a new three-story council building were finalized on paper. Additionally, the design for a new 30-bed health center building was completed.Hussain Shiham, the President-elect of the Maduvvari Council.
Shiham stated that the previous administration completed numerous projects in accordance with public demand and successfully increased electricity capacity. He further noted that a new 800-kilowatt generator was also brought in during that period.
