MDP's policy is that people should not have to remain sober all the time, but rather be allowed to drink: President Muizzu
President Muizzu stated that his administration is implementing robust policies to eradicate the drug epidemic, including legislative reforms and empowering enforcement agencies to address the issue effectively. Criticizing previous MDP administrations for allegedly pursuing policies contrary to Islamic principles, the President noted that individuals who insulted the religion were appointed to high-ranking positions. He concluded by asserting that the Maldivian people would no longer wish to see such a leadership return to power.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the policy of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is to ensure that people are not always sober and have access to alcohol.
During the PNC rally held on Thursday night, President Muizzu heavily criticized the opposition MDP. He also spoke regarding the current administration's ongoing efforts to combat narcotics. The President stated that significant progress has been made so far in the successful mission to save the nation from the scourge of drugs.
President Muizzu stated that the necessary legislative amendments have been made to address the drug crisis, granting enforcement agencies additional powers.
Furthermore, he highlighted ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and reintegrate youth struggling with drug addiction back into society. He also noted that the law has been amended to include the death penalty for those involved in the sale and trafficking of narcotics.
Referring to the MDP, President Muizzu stated that the previous administration's policy encouraged alcohol consumption, suggesting their stance was that people should not remain sober at all times.
The MDP government's policy was that alcohol should be accessible and that people should not have to remain sober at all times. That was their approach. However, our principle is that even the smallest amount of any intoxicant is strictly prohibited. Therefore, it is not this government's policy to facilitate any path that allows narcotics or intoxicants to take root in this country. To prevent this, we are aggressively implementing a comprehensive policy that aligns with the pulse and sentiments of the Maldivian people.President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu
Furthermore, President Muizzu stated that the Maldivian people would not wish to return to power those who played a leading role in publishing the 2015 report by the Maldives Democracy Network (MDN), titled "Preliminary Assessment of Radicalization in the Maldives," which insulted the religion of Islam.
President Muizzu highlighted that both MDP administrations had implemented policies contrary to Islamic principles. He stated that individuals who mocked, belittled, and spoke disparagingly about the fundamental tenets of the Muslim faith were appointed to high-ranking positions and maintained through public funds during the MDP's tenure.
President Muizzu stated that during the first MDP administration in 2011, the public was forced to take to the streets to defend Islam due to the government's implementation of policies that contradicted religious principles. The President further noted that it was the MDP government that installed idols in Addu City that same year to coincide with the SAARC Summit.
