Former Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated that the constitutional amendments introduced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration must be nullified and that redundant state-owned enterprises established by the government should be dissolved.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, Faisal stated that public confidence in President Muizzu’s administration has eroded. He further noted that the citizens do not accept the amendments brought by this government to the Constitution and other legal frameworks.
Highlighting the urgent need to overhaul the government's economic agenda, Faisal stated that current policies must be halted in favor of reforms that genuinely benefit the public. He further emphasized that state-owned enterprises and ministries should be allowed to operate independently within their respective mandates without interference, adding that responsibilities must be entrusted to those with the necessary expertise. He warned that if the government fails to change its course and adopt this approach, the country's situation is bound to deteriorate further.
Furthermore, Faisal stated that the government must engage with the business community to find solutions for the significant challenges currently facing the nation through their active participation. He highlighted that since business owners are the primary drivers of capital into the economy, they play a crucial role in resolving these issues.
Faisal stated that the government should not interfere in private sector trade and must instead provide citizens with the opportunity to grow their own businesses. However, he noted that the current administration's actions reflect the opposite, asserting that this policy must change if the nation's affairs are to be improved. He further highlighted that the government has established an excessive number of companies and called for the dissolution of redundant, unprofitable state-owned enterprises.
If Maldivian entrepreneurs are working toward the advancement of our people, we must provide them with opportunities. We must empower local companies. Currently, we see that all major projects are concentrated within state-owned enterprises. Whether it is land reclamation, coastal protection, harbor construction, building swimming pools, developing hospitals, or road construction—it is all the same. Everything is handled by entities like MACL, RDC, or MTCC. A nation cannot progress in such a manner.Former Vice President Faisal Naseem
Faisal stated that the country is currently facing severe shortages of essential food items and medicine, making life increasingly difficult for the citizens. He emphasized that this situation must change and noted that public consent is vital for maintaining good governance.
