The Muizzu administration

Current administration changes rules and regulations at every turn, lacking any consistent policy or clear direction: Dr. Didi

Didi highlighted that despite the government introducing significant legislative and regulatory amendments, these measures are not being implemented sustainably. He expressed concern over the frequent changes to critical policies, such as housing, to achieve political objectives, further criticizing the administration for its lack of a robust and unified policy framework to reach its goals.

Former President of the MDP, Dr. Ibrahim Didi, has criticized the current administration, stating that it frequently alters rules and regulations and lacks a consistent policy direction.

Speaking on Sunday night’s "Fala Surukhee" program, Didi stated that the inauguration of President Muizzu’s administration marked the beginning of efforts to establish robust policies and introduce significant constitutional reforms.

However, he noted that new regulations are often short-lived, with practices frequently reverting to their previous state after a brief period.

Didi stated that there is no issue with introducing changes to provide relief to the public or in response to their requests. However, he noted that the frequency with which these amendments are being altered raises significant questions.

In this regard, Didi expressed concern over the government's inconsistent housing policies, noting that the criteria and approaches are frequently subject to change.

Was this change made in response to public grievances to find a better solution? If so, that is fine. However, as you noted, the regulations changed today are being altered again tomorrow. What political objective is being pursued here? Was the previous policy shift aimed at influencing the last local council elections? And is the current reversal targeted at the 2028 elections? This is a matter of profound concern for the Maldivian people. We have not seen such constant shifting of regulations under previous administrations. Whether looking at President Solih’s government or those before it, policies were not being changed on a whim. It makes me wonder if President Muizzu’s approach is based on acting impulsively. There is no evidence of a robust, responsible, or consistent policy direction being pursued anywhere.

Didi stated that the current administration has ulterior political motives behind its amendments to regulations and procedures. He noted that the public is now aware of these underlying objectives and is refusing to accept them.
