4,121 eligible to vote in North Hithadhoo constituency by-election
The Elections Commission has announced that seven ballot boxes will be placed for the North Hithadhoo by-election scheduled for June 6, with five located in Addu City and two in Male'. Candidates from the ruling PNC and the opposition MDP are contesting the seat, which became vacant following the disqualification of the previous member. Voting will take place at Hithadhoo School and Dharumavantha School, with the Commission confirming that over 4,100 individuals are eligible to cast their ballots in this election.

The Elections Commission (EC) has announced that 4,121 individuals are eligible to vote in the North Hithadhoo constituency by-election, scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
The Elections Commission has released the final voters' list for the upcoming election. According to the list, 4,121 individuals are eligible to vote, and the Commission has decided to establish a total of seven polling stations for this by-election.
According to data released by the Commission, five ballot boxes will be stationed in Addu City, while two additional boxes will be placed in Male' to accommodate residents of the constituency living in the capital.
Voting for the election is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 6, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. In Male', polling stations will be located at the south building of Dharumavantha School, while in Addu City, ballot boxes will be stationed at Hithadhoo School. According to the Elections Commission’s voters' list, a total of 4,114 individuals are eligible to cast their ballots in this by-election.
Two candidates are contesting the by-election for the North Hithadhoo constituency seat. The contenders are Ahmed Saeed, representing the ruling People's National Congress (PNC), and Abdulla Sodiq from the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). The seat became vacant following a Supreme Court ruling against the former Member of Parliament, Mohamed Sinan. The court disqualified Sinan after it was proven that he had failed to settle a proven debt in accordance with a prior court judgment.
