Ibrahim Falah, the Parliamentary Group Leader and MP for the Inguraidhoo constituency, has refuted claims that the Senate of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) rejected a proposal submitted by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The news outlet Adhadhu has reported that President Muizzu proposed to the Senate that the leadership be granted full authority to manage all arrangements for the upcoming party congress and to make decisions as they see fit. The report further noted that the proposal failed to secure majority support from the Senate, marking the first time a motion put forward by President Muizzu has been rejected by the body.
However, denying these claims in a post on X, Falah stated that no action would be taken within the PNC Senate or its leadership that goes against the wishes of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Falah further emphasized that President Muizzu is a leader who commands immense love and trust from the party's membership.
Falah stated that President Muizzu has always prioritized the party’s constitution, established procedures, and the principle of consultation. He further noted that during the PNC Senate meeting, President Muizzu did not propose any specific course of action. Instead, Falah emphasized that throughout the entire session, the President maintained that all matters should be decided according to the will of the Senate members.
According to news reports, the Senate decided during the meeting to establish a special committee to ensure the participation of general members in congressional decision-making, rather than centralizing authority solely within the leadership.
It is noteworthy that these developments coincide with claims from the opposition MDP that they will remove President Muizzu from office, asserting that they have secured the support of members from the ruling PNC to do so.
