MDP Secures Dhonfanu Council’s Reserved Seat for Women: A Historic Victory for 20-Year-Old Rafa
Many observers are describing the victory of 20-year-old Rafa as a clear indication of the extent of public dissatisfaction with the government.

Aminath Rafa, the candidate representing the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has won the second round of the by-election for the seat reserved for women on the B. Dhonfanu Island Council, held on Saturday.
Rafa secured 202 votes in this election. At just 20 years old, her victory has drawn widespread public congratulations and praise. Members of the public have noted that the residents of Dhonfanu have sent a powerful and clear message to the government, reflecting a significant level of public dissatisfaction with the current administration.
Based on the results of the second round of voting for the Dhonfanu Council, Rafa has taken the lead with 155 votes from the ballot box stationed in B. Dhonfanu. Her opponent, PNC candidate Muna, received 111 votes. A total of 269 people cast their ballots at the polling station located in the Dhonfanu School hall, with 266 of those votes being declared valid.
For the second round of the Dhonfanu Women's Development Committee (WDC) election, a ballot box was stationed at Male' in Tajuddin School, Classroom 3. A total of 101 people cast their votes at this location. Out of the total votes cast, 98 were valid. From this ballot box, PNC candidate Muna received 51 votes, while Rafah secured 47 votes.
The second round of voting was conducted for several local council and committee seats. These include the seat reserved for women on the B. Dhonfanu Council, the councilor seat for the Dadimagu constituency in Fuvahmulah City, and the presidency of the Ha. Kelaa Committee. Additionally, second-round run-off elections were held for committee positions in HDh. Neykurendhoo and L. Maavah.
A total of 14 ballot boxes have been stationed for the second round of this election. Furthermore, 6,093 individuals have registered to cast their votes in these polls.
