Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen has urged against attempts to mislead him, asserting his authority and role as the Minister of Tourism.
Minister Ameen made these remarks while responding to a query from RaajjeTV during a press conference held on Thursday. RaajjeTV’s inquiry followed President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's pledge to develop 10 resorts under a model that would make every Maldivian citizen a shareholder, establishing a system where the public earns direct profits in US dollars. The news outlet sought clarification on the specific locations designated for these resorts and whether financing for the project has been secured.
Responding to the question, Minister Ameen stated that work is progressing at a rapid pace following President Muizzu’s announcement of the project during the Presidential Address. He noted that potential sites have been identified and the project is currently in the planning stage. Minister Ameen further noted that the project is being carried out through the joint efforts of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Tourism.
However, Minister Ameen declined to provide further details regarding the matter.
I may not be the one to officially announce those locations, but God willing, the full details will be shared with the public very shortly. I am well aware of the situation, so please do not try to mislead me. As the Minister of Tourism, I am certainly informed.Mohamed Ameen
President Muizzu announced that the identification of land, lagoons, and islands across Malé Atoll and various other atolls for the development of 10 resorts under this project will be finalized within this week. The President further stated that certain components of the project are scheduled to commence in November, expressing his expectation that these resorts will be operational within three years.
