PNC parliamentarians are reflecting the same desperation seen in the outgoing administration: MP Meekail
MP Meekail stated that the PNC members appear visibly disillusioned as recent election results indicate a decline in the government's popularity. He further asserted that the government would lose its parliamentary majority if the anti-defection law were amended to grant members more independence. Meekail added that this marks the first time in Maldivian history that a government has faced such a significant electoral setback so early in its term.

Member of Parliament for South Galolhu, Meekail Ahmed Naseem, has stated that the results of the three elections held on April 4th have left members of the ruling PNC visibly disheartened, reflecting the growing desperation of an outgoing administration.
Speaking on a RaajjeTV talk show, MP Meekail stated that although a few government members are vocal during parliamentary sessions, their faces betray a sense of despair. He noted that it is clearly evident from their expressions that they feel they are part of an administration nearing its end.
MP Meekail stated that if the amendment regarding the loss of parliamentary seats were to be repealed and members were granted full independence, the government would lose its supermajority in Parliament. He further noted that, under such circumstances, members would be expected to represent the will of the people more authentically.
Furthermore, MP Meekail stated that the results of the local council elections, the Women's Development Committee elections, and the referendum have clearly demonstrated the public's sentiments and their current stance to the members. MP Meekail also noted that despite the PNC securing seats, several constituencies have effectively rejected President Muizzu.
Even though a few members are still vocal during parliamentary debates and elsewhere, what I primarily observe is a sense of desperation. It appears to be the desperation of those serving in a government that is nearing its end. This sentiment has already reached the majority of Parliament members. If the case currently before the Supreme Court results in members being freed from their current constraints, it is highly likely that the President will lose his parliamentary majority within a single week. The members are now fully aware of the public’s true sentiments. The PNC’s loss of seats in several constituencies was a clear rejection of President Muizzu. Even in islands where residents voted for his own family members, they said "no" to the President. Seventy percent. This is the first time in the Maldives that a sitting president has seen such a significant decline in support during a midterm election. It marks the first time a sitting president has been defeated in a local council election.Meekail Ahmed Naseem, Member of Parliament for the South Galolhu constituency.
MP Meekail stated that President Muizzu is the first president to suffer such an embarrassing loss of popularity and support in a midterm election. He further noted that even the PNC majority now acknowledges that President Muizzu’s administration is nearing its end.
