Mariyam Maisa, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate for the L. Maavah Women's Development Committee (WDC), has stated that she is fully prepared to work collaboratively to advance women's empowerment if elected in the upcoming second round of the by-election.
The election for the Maavah constituency seat on the Women's Development Committee resulted in a tie, with both candidates receiving 564 votes. As a result of the deadlock, the two candidates proceeding to a second round of voting are Fathimath Shafiya, contesting on the People's National Congress (PNC) ticket, and Mariyam Maisa, representing the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
In response to a question from RaajjeMV, Maisa stated that the second round of the campaign has progressed very well. She noted that final preparations are now complete, with the support of her family and the party. Maisa also urged the public to cast their votes thoughtfully in the upcoming election.
"I urge everyone to consider their choice very carefully when casting their vote. I stand ready to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to drive the development of our island and the advancement of women," she said.
The Elections Commission has scheduled the second round of voting for this coming Saturday for constituencies where a runoff is required following the Local Council and Women's Development Committee elections held on the 4th of this month. These runoffs are necessary due to tie votes or other legal requirements. The second round of polling will take place in the respective islands where a runoff is mandated, as well as in Male'.
