Mahudhiyya Adam, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate contesting for the presidency of the Kelaa Women's Development Committee (WDC), has stated that the party is fully prepared for the upcoming second round of the election.
The election for the President of the Women's Development Committee (WDC) for the Kelaa constituency has resulted in a tie, with both candidates receiving 587 votes. The deadlock occurred between the candidate from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Mahudhiyya Adam, and the People's National Congress (PNC) candidate, Hawwa Fazna.
The Elections Commission has scheduled the second round of voting for this coming Saturday for constituencies where a runoff is required following the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections held on the 4th of this month. This decision follows instances of tied results and other factors necessitating a repeat vote in specific areas.
Speaking to Raajje MV, Mahudhiyya stated that the results of the first round of the election were highly encouraging. However, she emphasized that they cannot afford to remain complacent and leave matters to the PNC. She further noted her readiness to secure a victory driven by the spirit of the MDP.
"The support we have received so far has been excellent. We are very well-prepared and, God willing, we will succeed. We have no intention of backing down," Mahudhiyya said.
The elections held on the 4th of this month saw the highest voter turnout in Maldivian history for both Local Council and Women's Development Committee elections. According to the Elections Commission, the entire electoral process was conducted in a free and fair manner.
