Local Council and WDC By-election Runoffs: 47 Percent Turnout Recorded
Voting for the second round of by-elections to fill vacant seats on local councils and Women's Development Committees commenced today across five constituencies. A total of 6,093 eligible voters are expected to cast their ballots at 14 polling stations established in Male' and various islands, while the Elections Commission has urged all registered voters to cast their ballots as early as possible.

The Elections Commission has announced that 47 percent of eligible voters had cast their ballots by 1:00 PM on Saturday in the second round of the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections.
Voting for the second round of these two elections commenced at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and is scheduled to continue until 4:00 p.m. This runoff election is being held to fill two council seats and three positions on the Women's Development Committee.
The elections aim to fill the designated women's seat on the B. Donfanu Island Council and the vacant council seat for the Dadimagu constituency in Fuvahmulah City. Additionally, second-round voting for Women's Development Committees (WDC) will be held to elect the President of the HA. Kelaa committee, as well as members for the committees in HDh. Neykurendhoo and L. Maavah.
The Elections Commission (EC) stated that voting for the current elections is underway in the respective islands and cities of the constituencies, as well as in Male' City. A total of 14 ballot boxes have been stationed for the second round of these elections. This includes two ballot boxes each in Kelaa, Maavah, and the Dadimagu ward of Fuvahmulah, while one ballot box each has been placed in Neykurendhoo and Donfanu.
By 1:00 PM on Saturday, a total of 2,867 eligible voters had cast their ballots, representing 47 percent of the electorate. This figure includes 1,362 women and 1,505 men. Meanwhile, 3,226 individuals, or 52 percent of eligible voters, have yet to cast their votes.
A total of 6,093 individuals have registered to vote in these elections, consisting of 2,901 women and 3,192 men. The Elections Commission (EC) has urged all eligible voters to exercise their right to vote.
