Male' City continues to experience a high frequency of dangerous road accidents, with nine incidents reported on February 23 alone
A total of 41 traffic accidents were reported in the Greater Male' Area between February 22 and 28, the majority of which involved motorcycle collisions during daylight hours. While these incidents resulted in various degrees of injuries to several individuals, a tragic accident near the bridge claimed the life of a 16-year-old minor.

Police have reported that more than 40 traffic accidents occurred in Male' City alone over the past week.
According to traffic statistics released by the police on Monday, a total of 41 road accidents occurred across Male’, the Sinamale’ Bridge, and the highway between February 22 and 28, 2026. The highest number of incidents was recorded on February 23, with nine accidents occurring on that day alone. Police further noted that out of the weekly total, 36 accidents took place within Male’ City.
Police noted that approximately 66 percent of these accidents occurred during daylight hours, with collisions involving motorcycles being the most frequent. These incidents included 15 collisions between two motorcycles and eight accidents involving a motorcycle and a car.
Furthermore, police stated that based on all reported incidents, 38 accidents resulted in minor injuries, while two cases involved serious injuries. Police also confirmed that one person died in an accident during this period.
A 16-year-old boy has passed away on February 25 while undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in a serious accident near the bridge traffic lights on Boduthakurufaanu Magu. The incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
The number of road accidents in Male' City has seen a recent surge.
The police have urged all individuals to prioritize road safety and strictly adhere to traffic regulations. Furthermore, they have called for collective cooperation and mutual consideration to ensure that the streets remain safe for everyone.
