A large numbers of citizens will turn out for the referendum to reject this administration, says Mayor Azim
Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has asserted that the current administration cannot seize the land plots and flats allocated to citizens by the previous MDP government, pledging to hold the authorities accountable to ensure these rights are upheld. Criticizing government policies, Azim accused the administration of infringing upon public rights and stated that the upcoming election serves as a crucial opportunity for citizens to voice their concerns and diminish government influence. Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has stated that the upcoming election will serve as a referendum where the public rejects the current administration's policies, asserting that a significant majority will turn out to signal that the government must be "reined in."
Speaking at the MDP's "Heyvalla Thayyaaru" rally, Azim stated that it is clearly evident that the current administration is infringing upon the rights of the citizens.
Azim further stated that the previous administration handed over the documentation for land plots and flats to citizens out of concern that the current government might block the process. He alleged that had the MDP not issued those documents, the current administration would have withheld the housing units and land from the public. Azim asserted that whether the land is reclaimed from the seabed or situated elsewhere, anything granted by the MDP cannot be taken back. He added that despite President Muizzu’s attempts to obstruct the process through falsehoods, such efforts would not succeed.
I want to say to the President, specifically to President Muizzu, that you cannot withhold what we have already granted to the people. We will ensure that the MDP-led council becomes a source of constant pressure, leaving you no room for complacency. God willing, the people will elect MDP members this time because they know it is the MDP that truly delivers for them. By the grace of God, we will secure a landslide victory in this election and hold President Muizzu’s administration fully accountable. The land plots and flats promised to the residents of Male' by the MDP government must be handed over exactly as pledged, without exception. Indeed, I am ready to take this fight to the upcoming election.Male' City Mayor Adam Azim
Criticizing the ruling PNC, the Mayor stated that while the government claimed merging elections was a cost-cutting measure, it was actually an attempt to deprive citizens of their rights. He further noted that government officials are now afraid to face the public, alleging that they conduct door-to-door campaigning in secrecy, specifically choosing times when residents are away from home.
Azim stated that as the government approaches the two-and-a-half to three-year mark, it has failed to achieve anything for the people, with corruption being its only visible legacy. Consequently, he expressed confidence that the MDP would secure a landslide victory in the upcoming elections. Azim further pledged to keep the government on its toes to ensure the delivery of promised land plots and flats to the citizens. He added that the public is now eagerly waiting for the opportunity to reject this administration.
