Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has stated that the public now recognizes President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's administration is deceiving the people through false promises and rhetoric.
Speaking during a door-to-door campaign event in North Hulhumale', the Mayor stated that the public’s growing frustration with the current administration is evident every night. He noted that residents are vocal about the government's failure to address the needs of the North Hulhumale' constituency, alleging widespread neglect of the area and a complete lack of concern from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) regarding their grievances.
The Mayor stated that they have repeatedly requested the government to transfer the municipal services of Hulhumale' to the City Council, noting that the President has also expressed support for this move. He further emphasized that the Council stands ready to take over these responsibilities.
The residents of this city’s wards, specifically those living in Male' City, believe that quality municipal services can only be provided by the Male' City Council. They recognize that if a private company were to handle these services, it would prioritize its own profit margins. However, when elected officials manage these services, they act in the best interests of the public. As individuals who must return to the people for their mandate during elections, we are compelled to listen to their voices and address the essential needs of our citizens.Male' City Mayor Adam Azim
The Mayor stated that as elected officials, the Council’s actions will always prioritize the best interests of the public. He emphasized that because they must ultimately return to the people for their mandate, they are duty-bound to listen to the voices of the citizens and address their most pressing concerns.
The Mayor further stated that public sentiment is currently centered on the government’s incompetence, its neglect of the people, and its failure to address the significant challenges facing the citizens. He noted that the public is now firmly convinced that the administration believes it can continue to survive solely through empty rhetoric and a pattern of deception.
I am calling upon the citizens at this moment to recognize that the opportunity is now in your hands. The people will no longer grant another chance to this government, which continues to lie and deceive. I urge everyone across the Maldives to come out and seize this opportunity—especially those in Male' City and everyone registered on the Male' City Dhafthar—to come forward and say "no" to this government. I ask for your support for all our candidates by voting for the scales.Male' City Mayor Adam Azim
The Mayor stated that the public now has a significant opportunity and will no longer tolerate the deceptions of the current administration. He called upon all citizens across the country, particularly those registered in the Male' City Dhafthar, to seize this moment to reject the government. He urged voters to cast their ballots for the "scales" symbol and ensure a clean sweep for all MDP candidates.
The Mayor stated that under a future MDP administration, a policy has been formulated to allow residents of small flats in Hulhumalé to relinquish their units in exchange for land plots in Uthuru Thila Falhu. Furthermore, the Mayor noted that the MDP government's housing policy ensures that individuals registered on the 'Dhaftharu' (the official registry of residents without permanent addresses in Male') will also be eligible for land plots in Uthuru Thila Falhu.
