Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has issued a sharp rebuttal to comments made by Member of Parliament Saudha regarding staff working in the city's mosques.
Responding to allegations made in Parliament on Wednesday claiming that the Mayor of Male' City must cease harassing mosque employees, Mayor Adam Azim stated in a post on X that the public will not be misled by those who, despite being under oath, resort to spreading falsehoods regarding religion and sacred sites. Azim further remarked that by resorting to such tactics before the "match" has even begun, his opponents have already played their "final card."
Do not treat the public's trust as a plaything! May Allah guide you to the right path and grant you forgiveness. Ameen.Male' City Mayor Adam Azim
Furthermore, speaking at an MDP rally held last month, Azim stated that the current administration has also halted the recruitment of necessary staff for mosques. Azim further asserted that mosques and religious affairs were given the highest priority during the MDP administration and under his leadership as an MDP mayor.
Speaking at the session, Azim stated that the current President had treated mosques with significant neglect during his tenure as the Mayor of Male' City. Azim alleged that, at the time, undocumented expatriates were simply picked up from the streets to clean the mosques. However, Azim highlighted that these operations have now been restructured, with the work being carried out entirely by Maldivian staff.
