MDP calls for a fair trial for former Fenaka MD Saeed
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has expressed concern over the High Court's failure to schedule a single hearing for the appeal of former Fenaka Managing Director Ahmed Saeed Mohamed, three months after the case was filed. The party called for an expedited appeal process to ensure Saeed’s constitutional right to a fair and timely trial is upheld.

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has called for an expedited appeal process and a fair trial for Ahmed Saeed Mohamed, the former Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation, following what the party describes as an unjust prison sentence.
In a statement released Sunday, the MDP emphasized that Article 20 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives guarantees that every individual is equal before and entitled to the equal protection and benefit of the law, and that the law must be applied to everyone without discrimination.
The MDP stated that Article 32 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives guarantees everyone the right to a fair and public hearing within a reasonable timeframe. This right applies to the determination of civil rights and obligations, as well as in the adjudication of any criminal charges, before an independent and impartial court or tribunal established by law.
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has noted that five months have passed since a politically motivated and unjust sentence was handed down against Ahmed Saeed Mohamed, a member of the party’s National Council and former Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation. The party further highlighted that although the case was filed for appeal at the High Court of the Maldives more than three months ago, not a single hearing has been convened to date.
Expressing grave concern over the matter, the MDP has called for the expedited appeal of Saeed’s case and urged the authorities to ensure he receives a fair trial.
The MDP’s call follows concerns raised by Saeed’s family, who have also expressed alarm over the alleged lack of adequate medical care provided to him.
