Extent to which Maldivian political landscape has been tarnished and corrupted is evident in the intimidation and threats directed at election candidates: Shahid
Shahid criticized President Muizzu’s administration for prioritizing ceremonial foundation-laying events over the actual implementation of development projects, asserting that the upcoming election results will clearly demonstrate the public's rejection of the government's current policies.

The President of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Abdulla Shahid, has stated that the country's political landscape has become so toxic and tainted that numerous election candidates are being subjected to various forms of intimidation and threats.
In an exclusive interview with RaajjeMV, Shahid stated that the Maldivian political landscape has been tarnished and corrupted. He pointed to the ongoing threats and intimidation directed at election candidates as clear evidence of this decline. Shahid further remarked that the ruling party lacks an understanding of democratic principles, asserting that the only form of governance they are familiar with is authoritarianism.
Emphasizing that the MDP will not allow such actions to persist, Shahid stated that the party is prepared and determined to deliver a decisive defeat to the current administration. He further asserted that once the votes are tallied from the northernmost to the southernmost reaches of the country, the final results will serve as a clear and resounding rejection of President Muizzu’s authoritarian government and its performance over the past two and a half years.
No development projects are currently underway. Furthermore, the foundation stones laid during recent official visits appear to have been abandoned and left to weather. The public is questioning the status of the thousands of promises made during the presidential election campaign.Abdulla Shahid, MDP President
Furthermore, Shahid stated that when people go to vote on April 4th, they should ask themselves if they truly see President Muizzu’s presence; however, he asserted there is no reason for any citizen to see him today. Shahid also noted that no significant development work has been carried out in Fuvahmulah City or Addu City over the past two and a half years, claiming that the administration's actions have been limited solely to laying foundation stones.
Shahid stated that in the Maldivian language, the term "foundation stone" does not refer to merely placing a stone for a project one intends to start, but rather to the base upon which something is actually built. He further suggested that if the government is confused by this concept, they should seek clarification from the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage.
