Complaint Filed With ACC Alleging Fenaka Corporation and MTCC Intimidated Gaadhiffushi Staff Ahead of Election
The complaint alleges that employees in the island are being transferred to other locations in an attempt to influence the vote, thereby compromising ballot secrecy and obstructing the right to vote freely. A formal complaint has been lodged with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) alleging that employees at the Fenaka and MTCC offices in Th. Gaadhiffushi are being subjected to workplace intimidation. The complaint asserts that residents employed at these offices are being threatened with job insecurity, effectively obstructing their right to vote freely.
The case was submitted by Ahmed Saleem (Maaz Saleem), a member of the MDP National Congress.
In the case submitted by Maaz Saleem on Sunday, it is alleged that various officials within state-owned enterprises are exploiting their positions to influence the outcome of the local council elections. The complaint states that branches of Fenaka and MTCC across different islands are exerting undue pressure on voters by threatening employees with dismissal to sway their votes.
Maaz Saleem stated that in an effort to secure votes, residents of Th. Gaadhiffushi employed at the local Fenaka office are being transferred to other islands within the same atoll, as well as to several islands in Laamu Atoll. Furthermore, he noted that Gaadhiffushi residents working at the MTCC office in Th. Gaadhiffushi are also being transferred to various other islands across both Thaa and Laamu Atolls.
Highlighting that this action is explicitly prohibited under the Elections Act, Maaz Saleem stated that transferring four or five individuals to a location other than their island of residence would compromise the secrecy of the ballot. He further explained that while votes cast in the local council and Women's Development Committee elections are intended to be secret, transferring a small group of three or four people from Gaadiffushi to vote at a specific ballot box on another island would make their identities and their voting choices clearly identifiable.
Maaz Saleem has requested an urgent investigation into allegations that the Fenaka and MTCC offices in Th. Gaadhiffushi have intimidated local employees with the threat of job loss. The complaint asserts that these actions have obstructed the residents' right to vote freely.
By transferring employees to other islands and instructing them to vote for government candidates, these workers were deprived of their right to vote freely. Faced with the threat of losing their jobs, they were forced to cast their ballots for the government's preferred candidates.Ahmed Saleem, a member of the MDP National Congress.
Furthermore, Maaz Saleem has submitted a list to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) detailing employees from the Fenaka and MTCC offices in Gaadhiffushi, Thaa Atoll, who were allegedly transferred to other islands as a form of workplace intimidation. The submission claims these transfers were carried out in violation of electoral laws to influence voting outcomes.
