Thinadhoo Mayor Saud Ali has stated that whenever the MDP is not in power, there are "pirates" who attempt to seize the future of the Maldives.
Saud made these remarks while speaking at the "Heyvalla Thayyaaru" rally held by the MDP at the Artificial Beach area on Thursday night to launch its local council election campaign.
Saud stated that it is an undeniable truth that the positive changes desired by the people were brought about through the sacrifices made by the MDP. He further noted that whenever the MDP is not in power, there are those who attempt to seize and jeopardize the future of the country.
"There are pirates and thieves attempting to snatch away our future. We must stand up against this," Saud said.
Saud stated that, anticipating an MDP victory in the council elections, authorities have begun intimidating supporters of MDP candidates by threatening their job security and forcibly transferring them to different positions. He further emphasized that MDP members must stand united for the sake of their children’s and grandchildren’s futures. Saud concluded by asserting that the public must cast their votes for the MDP in the upcoming local council elections.
Saud stated that the government has crippled local councils and stripped them of their powers, asserting that the upcoming local council elections present a crucial opportunity to reverse this trend. He further pledged that an MDP administration would restore authority to the decentralized system and empower local governance once again.
