Upcoming local council elections are an opportunity to say no to subjugation: Ahmed Abdulla

Following a campaign visit to R. Dhuvaafaru for the upcoming local council elections, former Baarah MP Ahmed Abdulla stated that there is significant public resentment regarding government influence and threats of job dismissal. He further condemned the Elections Commission for its alleged negligence in providing citizens with adequate information regarding the referendum, asserting that proceeding with the vote without proper public awareness is unacceptable.

Former Member of Parliament for the Baarah constituency, Ahmed Abdulla, has stated that the upcoming Local Council and Women's Development Committee elections in April present a crucial opportunity for citizens to reject subjugation.

In an interview with RaajjeMV following a door-to-door campaign activity in R. Dhuvaafaru—part of the MDP leadership’s nationwide tour for the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections—Ahmed Abdulla stated that a key observation from the visit was the deep-seated resentment and anger among many who previously supported the current administration. He noted a clear shift in sentiment, with many now intent on defeating the government.

However, they have highlighted the illicit practices being carried out to exert undue influence, including the use of job insecurity as a threat and the exploitation of citizens through financial dependency.

Furthermore, Ahmed Abdulla stated that the public has not been provided with any information regarding the referendum. He added that the Elections Commission is legally mandated to ensure that adequate information is disseminated to the citizens.
