Referendum is a deceptive attempt to strip away the power of the people; this will become an arrow that pierces the PNC’s own eye: Ameen
Speaking at an MDP rally, Ameen warned that the government would face bitter consequences for undermining democracy to serve personal interests, noting that past administrations that attempted to suppress the will of the people ultimately faced downfall.

Member of Parliament for the Kanditheemu constituency, Ameen Faisal, has stated that the government is deceitfully attempting to strip power from the people through a "referendum" on synchronizing elections. He warned that this move would eventually backfire on the ruling People's National Congress (PNC).
Amin made these remarks while speaking at the MDP's "Heyvalla Thayyaaru" rally.
Ameen has stated that the People's National Congress (PNC) is dismantling Maldivian democracy and stripping citizens of their power. He asserted that the government's efforts to synchronize elections under the guise of cost-cutting are a deceptive maneuver intended to hijack the constitutional authority of the people. Furthermore, Ameen accused the administration of abusing the mandate granted to them by the public, claiming that the powers entrusted to the government are being exercised through deceitful means.
"Today, a cloud of deception and treachery looms over us. While some remain in the comfort of air-conditioned rooms, they have seized the power earned through your courage and joy, clutching it in their hands for their own personal gain and pleasure," Ameen said.
Ameen stated that historical records show previous attempts by certain groups to strip the people of their power in the Maldives, all of which ultimately failed. He cited the events of Tuesday, 22nd Rajab 1352 AH, as a prime example of such an incident.
"The actions taken to maintain the power and authority of Shamsuddin’s administration led to its downfall within just 12 months and 12 days. By prioritizing personal greed and self-interest, these individuals are sharpening an arrow that, God willing, will ultimately pierce their own eyes," Ameen said.
Ameen stated that the country's current trajectory mirrors past trends, asserting that leaders will not be given the opportunity to strip citizens of their powers. He noted that when public authority was previously suppressed, it was the courage and determination of ordinary MDP members that restored those rights. Ameen further emphasized that the MDP is the party that fundamentally believes all power originates from the people.
