President Muizzu returns to Male' from Qatar
During a visit to offer condolences to the Qatari royal family following the passing of the former Emir, the President met with the Emir of Qatar to discuss further strengthening bilateral relations. This visit underscores the high priority the Maldivian government accords to the long-standing fraternal ties between the Maldives and Qatar.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has returned to Male' after concluding his official visit to Qatar.
The President’s visit was undertaken to pay his respects and offer condolences to the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the Royal Family, following the passing of the former Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The former Emir passed away last Sunday.
During the visit, the Emir of Qatar met with President Muizzu. During the meeting, the President extended condolences on behalf of the government and the people of the Maldives following the passing of the former Emir of Qatar. Furthermore, both leaders discussed the fraternal ties between the two nations and reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening these close relations.
The President's Office stated that this visit symbolizes the high priority the Maldives accords to its long-standing relationship with Qatar.
The former Emir of Qatar has provided significant assistance and cooperation to the Maldives. Key contributions include the commencement of Qatar Airways operations to the country, the establishment of the Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani School in Laamu Atoll, and the construction of Masjid al-Sheikh Qassim bin Al Thani in Hulhumalé. During his reign as Emir, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani also conducted an official visit to the Maldives in 2005.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Qatar were established on May 26, 1984.
