Three arrested so far in connection with violence and destruction of state property during PNC's recent internal elections
Three individuals have been arrested following a violent altercation and the destruction of state property at Kamil Didi School in Hulhumale’ during the People’s National Congress (PNC) internal elections. The suspects are accused of defying police orders and attempting to disrupt public order, and the police have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.

Three individuals have been arrested so far in connection with a major disturbance during the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) internal elections in Hulhumale, which resulted in damage to state property near a polling station.
Disturbances broke out at Kaamil Didi School, where the ballot box for the Hulhumale North constituency was located, during the election held on Saturday.
Two individuals were previously arrested in connection with this case. The suspects have been identified as two Maldivian men, aged 23 and 24.
Providing an update on the case, a police media official stated that an additional suspect was arrested under a court order on the night of July 12, 2026. The individual apprehended is a 24-year-old Maldivian male.
Police are conducting a further investigation into the matter.
Videos of the incident circulating on social media show several PNC members engaging in a violent physical altercation. The footage also reveals significant damage caused to state property at the center. The videos clearly depict individuals throwing chairs and other equipment, resulting in the destruction of premises.
Video footage of the incident shows the crowd defying police orders and attempting to escalate the situation as officers worked to bring the unrest under control. The incident has since drawn widespread public criticism.
